Traveling for work can be tiresome and lonely, but finding friends along the way that can give you suggestions of places to visit and food to eat is essential.
An outdoorsman, I hate to surrender to the elements and stay boxed in a hotel room. So, when I knew I was headed to Wisconsin and would stay the weekend, I packed my bag a little heavier and came willing and smiling.
Iβm in Green Bay this weekend and the weather actually warmed up. It was in the high 20βs yesterday and perfect. My friend Carole gave me a few suggestions for hikes and scenic places in the area.
I only made it to one yesterday as I had decided to sleep in and enjoy a leisurely morning. But the one did not disappoint.
Here are a few photos and a poem to accompany from Fonferek’s Glen, a county park.

Behind the Falls
Behind the falls
Time seems stopped
The water frozen
As it had dropped
But thereβs a trickle
Alive and well
Sending hope
Breaking the spell
Your loveβs the river
Solid ice
You keep it cold
You paid the price
Let me be
Your warming spring
Let it flow
Let it ring
Just a trickle
Can start the flow
And soon your love
Again will grow

Ah, i love the idea of that warming trickle! Your photos are wonderful. We might get our first snow today.

The joy of my job is I can go from the northern part of the U.S. to the most southern in one week. However, it makes it difficult to pack. Lol

We had snow this morning in Stockholm so we put on our skies and enjoyed the snow…. It looks like a wonderful winter where you were.

Very much so. It warmed up enough to enjoy it this weekend. It was -35 C 6 days ago but was 4 C for my hike.

Love the photos and the poem! That hint of a thaw emphasizes how much is caught in the freeze. π

I’m not a fan of snow, though I’ll admit it’s beautiful. Your pictures are wonderful and your poem too.

Ha, I don’t know if you know it but I am in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, area. I used to live in Green Bay. You have definitely chosen a poor weekend to visit, but (trust me) it was worse earlier this week. If ‘your love is the river, solid ice’ that seems to me an ominous sign. Smiles. Sometimes things don’t thaw for a while. We are all waiting for the warming spring…but I think it might be. I enjoyed your photos AND your pictures. Come back to WI in summer…more enjoyable then. Smiles!!

I have been here in the spring and summer. It is lovely in every season. Iβll be in Milwaukee Tuesday (technically Racine) for the day before flying out Wednesday. The whole state is pretty.

The subject is extremely lucky. Most times, people will run from coldness. But the speaking offers warmth, even knowing that it will hurt (even if just at the beginning).
The photos are glorious! And I really love seeing the visual inspiration for a poem so clearly. Also, you have really good friends–what an awesome spot!
